River Alive Learning Trail

River Alive! Learning Trail

Client: Habithèque Inc. for Independence Seaport Museum
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Challenge:

Expand the messages and impact of the River Alive! exhibition into the Philadelphia community to create a more inclusive and impactful approach to environmental education

Solution:

Work with project manager and creative lead Victoria Prizzia of Habithèque Inc. to develop a series of "playful learning interventions" – sculptures, inspirational STEAM-based signage, programs, etc. – that pop up along the trails of Juniata Park in northeast Philadelphia, a traditionally underserved community bordering the Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Creek watershed. Community workshops with kids and adults from the neighborhood were vital to the creation of meaningful connections between the community and the environment, and will continue to be part of the development process as the Learning Trail evolves.

The planning and design phase of this project was made possible by the support of the William Penn Foundation.
Scope:
Master planning, content research, exhibit design, bid package development, infrastructure advising
