Amazeum

The Backyard

Client: Scott Family Amazeum
Location: Bentonville, Arkansas
Opening Summer 2024

Challenge:

Re-imagine a high visibility, one acre outdoor play space as a mix of collaborative risk-taking and changing interactive experiences, while improving its flexibility for events and programming

Solution:

Collaborate with the client to create a public-oriented space that transforms the Amazeum into a community hub for outdoor and group-oriented activity. Hands On! conducted a series of benchmarking and development meetings to communicate the museum’s vibrant, whimsical personality into a series of large-scale, maker-inspired structures that organize the linear site. Careful attention was given to provide programmable experiences like boat building, an adventure playground, and an event lawn, along with a thoughtful mix of experiences that ensure opportunities for all ages and abilities. An abundance of shaded seating and dining areas are strategically located throughout the site to offer comfort, exciting sight lines, and protection from the sun and wind.
Scope:
Exhibition master planning and design, strategic planning, benchmarking, fundraising documentation
